A very self indulgent book that probably wouldn't have been published if the author wasn't already famous, or if it hadn't been commissioned. Miller engaged with Anarchist writers from his youth, but they don't get mentioned here. All Miller scholarship on Anarchism is deliberately ignored and omitted. When the journal devoted to Miller studies asked for review copy, they were ignored. It's sad that this is the best we can do and that editors can't tell the difference between a great and perceptive book on Miller and a mediocre one. One writer writing about another has led to some incredibly insightful books. Don't expect this to be one of them.
This is a collection of essays about Henry Miller with an emphasis on his Anarchist works. These essays are really one person's viewpoint on Miller's writings and his opinion not Literary Criticism. I enjoyed some of the essays others I found boring or too self indulgent. I did like it that author attempted to write about some of Miller's lesser known works. For the Miller fan only.
