Easy to follow for a novice like me. As many have said, it's hard to get a clear understanding of the pictures because they are black and white. I understand publishing costs of color but I'd pay a few bucks more fore the color pics. Or, better yet, offer a website link that holds the color pics.
This book contains a complete step by step walk through of the steps needed to take even a novice grower from spore to harvest. Advanced techniques are also explained clearly, with plenty of pictures as well. It is a quick read, easily completed in a day as there are numerous full pages devoted to picture instruction.Subtracted one star because all of the information can be found online for free, and I did not learn anything new. However, for the person who would rather have a book in hand, this is a great one to get as it is more geared to the novice than most that I have read.
Probably the best book on the subject AND it's the ONLY book Paul Stamets himself recommends in his EPIC book, 'The Mushroom Cultivator - A Practical Guide to Growing Mushrooms at Home'! Paul Stamets is THE KING of Mushrooms and ANY recommendation by him should be paid close attention to!
This book is well organized and easy to follow. It feels a bit like a recipe book with a method and pictures for every step. Follow the instructions in this book and you'll be growing tons of mushrooms in no time!

It is focused on the home grower and specifically outlines a step by step, 'do it yourself' approach.I am personally impressed on how the author thoroughly and systematically shows the process of making your own equipment.Using this as a reference, anyone should be able to grow mushrooms in their own home. The cleverly made Sourcing Guide at the end of the book has useful advice in finding various equipments and items needed.In terms of ease of use, this is an excellent book on mushroom growing.
