This is a very good book, but not one for beginners. I'm far from an expert myself, but while I'm ready for at least some of this book now, I'd not want to have started with it. This book is for those with intermediate skills, I don't have Pamela Nottingham's, "The Technique of Bobbin Lace," at hand at this moment, but if I recall correctly, that one was a lot better for beginners.
Wonderful book. For all those situations you're not sure how to dig yourself out that is not in any other book. beautifully diagrammed in detail. Best technical book I ever bought for Bobbin lace. Most books show the stitches but not all the little situations you come across.For example, how to finish a piece where the end joins the beginning easily, how to recover from a thread breaking, how to start/replace an old thread with a new thread, and so many other situations. Wish I'd had it when I was learning bobbin lace, would have saved myself so many hours.I think this should be a companion book to every how to bobbin lace course, book, etc. Very highly recommended.
Perfect title for a super helpful book. Having basic self-taught knowledge of bobbin lace, this book helped expand skills in about every situation not covered in other books with clarity. Anytime I think, "OK, but how do you do that?" This book has the answer. Particularly helpful as I learn to design my own patterns.
If you are serious about the craft of bobbin lace making, this is your encyclopedia. Much like "Principles of Knitting" it is not a book of patterns, but an instructional manual of techniques. It provided detailed, illustrated examples of how to do a specific technique. It is not a book that will be referred to often, but when needed is invaluable. Highly recommended.
I am working by myself to learn bobbin lace and I find this book with the excellent descriptions, explanations and illustrations tobe a gem in my growing collection of lace information. I am beyond delighted.Happy Lace student
This book is wonderful information for the beginner to bobbin lace making. The book is in like-new condition and a great start to my bobbin lace reference library.
What a fabulous book. I have been searching for this book for almost two years, since it is out of print. It is the absolute bible of bobbin lacemaking. I have already made extensive use of it. It seems to cover every possible question or problem you might encounter. The explanations and illustrations are fantastic.
