In The Dry Fire Primer, Annette Evans has give us the gift of those answers.In a concise and easy to read format, the author lays out the reasons to dry fire, how to go about structuring your practice, the ideas behind setting up a practice area (The Dojo), and most importantly gives insight and suggestions on how to modify your practice to best suit your needs.Most dry fire books are dry and soulless. They provide the drill you need to set up to practice. We need these books from the Grand Masters so we can improve. What Ms. Evans has given us newbies is what I have started calling The Dry Fire Rosetta Stone. This book gave me the ability to translate those drills and give me the reasons why they are set up the way they are. I can not recommend this book enough to those who desire to become practitioners of the shooting sports.

The book comes at a good time for me as this is the time of year I typically step up my dry fire time.One might wonder if there is anything left to say on the subject. However, the Dry Fire Primer takes a slightly different, but highly useful, approach to the topic. The book is not a compilation of specific drills. Instead, the author discusses in detail the reasoning and techniques behind dry fire practice. Annette Evens expands on the topics that others might only touch on in an introduction.Besides all the useful hints and advice on how to, where to, and when to dry fire, the book is also motivational. While few would deny the benefits of regular dry fire practice, no matter how brief the sessions, it's often difficult to find the time in a busy day. The Dry Fire Primer offers the motivation to actually work it in to your regular routine. The emphasis is on quality practice, not the quantity of time spent.The Kindle book is packed with useful tips and suggestions. It's a short read. But you'd rather be doing the practice than spending a lot of time reading about it. Right? Highly reccomened.
To my inexperienced ear, when I hear 'Dry fire" I hear the act of pulling the trigger on an empty chamber. Something I would have gotten a smack upside the head for when I was a kid, and I understand why, I have lost the firing pins in four firearms due to this kind of dry fire.Fortunately, that's not what this is about at all. In this context, "Dry fire" means "To practice all the skills and moves you would do during shooting, either in a match or a self defense situation, but without live ammo" I am glad my curiosity made me purchase the book, because while I will never be a competition pistol shooter, the suggestions in this book are solid and make good logical sense. I will assuredly be doing this.

I wanted a basic orientation to dry fire and resources, and this is it. It's worth a read to get an idea of the basic setup, tools, and resources you'll need to save time and money during your practice.
Good book for novice shooters who want to work on their draw and trigger control My only gripe is that the necessary safety stuff is stressed over and over and over again. And again. Seems like two thirds of the book (seems I said) is devoted to safety. Yes, that's necessary stuff, but I would have preferred less redundant safety info and more drills.
This is a great book for beginners. For someone who has never dry fired or is just getting into it. There are a lot of great tips about how to get the most out of your dry fire session. Coming from a military and law enforcement background, I even learned a few things.One thing to note is this book does not have drills or go though the proper technique. The end of the book has references you can visit if you want those.
This book spells out a good number of ways you can improve your gun handling skills cheaply, effectively, and without having to necessarily make a hole range day if it- something a lot of us don’t have the time and money to do as often as we’d like.Written clearly yet eloquently, it is a solid tool to add to your arsenal of training manuals.
